Homeland of the Alaskan Malamute –Kotzebue, city located in Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska . The Alaskan Malamute - a native dog of a tribe, called "malamute." These large dogs were used to transport goods in extreme arctic conditions. Their stamina allowed them to carry weight for long distances. "Gold Rush" in 1896 provided a big demand for these dogs, when the miners took a lot of sled dogs. Since then, attention to the breed only grew from year to year. Today, there are two different kinds of Alaskan Malamutes: the M'Loot and the Kotzebue. Between these two lines you can find that they are different in sizes and colors. M'Loot Malamutes are larger than Kotzebue. However, Kotzebue dogs are less aggressive than M'Loots. There is still a dispute among breeders - which of those two lines of malamutes should be considered as "right", fortunately, representatives of the two lines have not lost their working abilities yet.
