The origin of Canaan Dog could be traced to 4000 years of history ago if we believe this dog resembles the wild dog type. In 1934, Dr. Rudolf and Prof. Rudolphina Menzel immigrated to Israel and started their study of Canaan Dog and they became the driving force for preservation of this breed. In 1949, Dr. Menzel Started to train Canaan dogs as guide dogs for the blind based in his Institute for Orientation and Mobility of the Blind. In mid-1900s, wild Canaan dog collection has all but ceased because most of the Canaan dogs living in the open were destroyed in the fight between Israeli government against rabies.
