The history of the Chihuahua is not clearly recorded, but some believe that the breed originated from the Fennec Fox, a tiny animal with large eyes and big ears, that might be able to be reflected by the small body size, bright eyes and big ears on the breed at present. It is known that some of the breed was used for religious goals, and some was used only companionship. It was until the 19th century, the breed became popular among the present world when American travelers brought the tiny dogs home. In the year of 1892, Chihuahuas first appeared in American dog shows and at present the Chihuahua serves as popular companion breed.
