Without an exact date to follow from history, Dachshund was considered to be first bred in the early 17th century in Germany. The goal was to set up an elongated canine that could dig the mud from a badger burrow and fight to the last breath with the vicious badgers. The breed propagated in America in 20th century, and lost favor during the First World War. After war, many breeders gradually reconstituted the gene pool by importing German stock, and the breed started to be in popularity one more time. The breed has been used to those canines that were similar in their special ability, and which has the characters of Terriers.
