The Toy Fox Terrier is small and compact in size. They have a square body when viewed from the size and its length and depth is proportional to the length of its head, neck, and legs. They have a short tail, which is usually carried upright. Although they have a predominantly white, short, and glossy coat, they appear to be balanced and aristocratic.
The Toy Fox Terrier, sometimes known as American Toy Terrier, can thank its existence from careful selective breeding between the Smooth Fox Terrier and with other toy breeds such as Manchester Terrier and Chihuahua by American fanciers. A truly American breed, the resulting Toy Fox Terrier retained the gameness from the terriers and the calm nature of the other breeds, along with its diminutive size, is heavily favored by hunters. They can easily carry them and release to the quarry to flush out foxes. Even though they are the direct descendant of the Fox Terrier, and the unequivocal similarities between them, the Toy Fox Terriers considered a separate breed. The United Kennel Club (UKC) officially recognized them in 1936, placing them in the Terrier Group. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized the breed recently back in 2000 and placed them in the Toy Group.
